JANA SANFORD

A recent graduate of F.I.T, Jana Sanford have already established herself as one of the talented, creative and up coming female photographer for my generation. Her work remind me of something you will find in Vanity Fair. I'm thrill to have her agreeing to be feature for our blog.

1. Introduce yourself to the readers of Undiscover Magazine.
Jana Sanford, 28 from Gainesville, Fl. I moved here in 2006 to pursue a career in photography. I live in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

2. Why did you choose to become a photographer?

I chose photography because I love the process of creating something so beautiful. I also love that as you progress and hone your style, you personality starts showing through in your pictures. And everyday is something new!

3. What is your specialty: beauty, high fashion,advertisement?

High fashion/alternative fashion and portraiture.

4. I have to say, your work is amazing. What is your inspiration?
I draw a lot of my inspiration from street fashion. I'm from the South so I also like to incorporate a little bit of the grit from where I grew up into my pictures. I tend to think up a lot of shoots where the girls are hot, or sweaty, or dirty.

5. Do you only do digital photography? (If yes or no) Why?

I'm a newbie to digital, but I love it. I shoot everything from 35mm, to medium format, to digital.

6. Who have you work with?

I've worked behind the scenes with a few big names in NY. I also work a lot with upcoming talent in hair, makeup and styling.

7. What should we look forward from Jana Sanford in the up coming year?

My stylist, Michelle Almonte and I are shopping around for an agent, we have tons more to create so you will be seeing a lot from us!

8. What advice would you give the next generation of photographers that's looking to work in your field?
Don't let the Debbie Downers of the industry suck out your passion or your drive. Keep creating!

9. While looking at your work, it remind me of something I will see in Vanity Fair. Do people tell you that a lot?
I've been told that my style would fit in with a lot of the current fashion magazines, and I take that as a huge compliment! I think people want to see something new and artistic when it comes to fashion, and I think ultimately a magazine like Vanity Fair would be an amazing place for an artist to show their work.
